Might as well blog about sports since sports are my passion haha.
As you may or may not know I was born and raised in Australia, so this blog will not only be dedicated to american sports but pretty much any sport I find interesting. I will blog about Rugby, Cricket, and Soccer periodically at least, I can't promise great posts about those sports because I lack great viewing options for them.
Cricket will always be my favorite sport and I'll explain why later on. I want to say I started playing around age 9 and I feel as if it came more naturally to me than anything. I always say I was awesome whenever cricket comes up. If you know me though, I say I'm awesome at almost anything athletic which may lead to someone not believing that I was good at cricket, but I really was and I can say that with 100% conviction. Anyway, back to my background in cricket...I played every day by myself for about 3 hours once I figured out how I could play against myself. It was more to me then than playing video games is to me now which is saying a lot. I lived for actual games which I think were played on saturdays, I always enjoyed bowling the most because I was never much of a hitter and because I was really good at it. My cricket career was cut short because my family decided to move stateside against my wishes, they wouldn't even let me move in with my grandparents either :-(
Now that I am done boring all of my american readers (I don't have any readers yet) who couldn't care less about cricket, I will move on to sports everyone understands now.
Of the 3 big professional american sports (NFL, MLB, NBA) I only claim to be knowledgeable about the NFL and MLB. I won't call myself an expert about the NFL because of the subtleties of the x's and o's (still know a ton about it and most if not all the rules) but I consider myself an expert on baseball. Can't say I know too much about the nuances of basketball unfortunately, but I still enjoy it.
My favorite sport on this continent is still yet to be decided. The NFL definitely markets itself the best and there is nothing I would rather watch on a sunday than a good chargers game. In my mind the NFL's biggest weakness is they can only play one game a week otherwise it would be my favorite by far. MLB closes the gap considerably just because they play almost every day and there is always something fun to watch (provided your team is playing well otherwise it's torture) and follow stats online.
Don't get me wrong I like the NBA, but I struggle to watch a full game. I can't get sucked into a game where there is so much scoring it means very little until late in the 4th quarter most of the time. The end of the games are usually good with the potential to be great fun if the game is close enough but since I can't watch a full game most of the time it has to rank behind baseball and football. I still really like the sport and it is very fun to play but until I learn more about the game and can appreciate it more I won't be able to enjoy sitting through entire games.
In the last paragraph I said that too much scoring in a game is a bad thing in my eyes. It takes away some of the stuff I love about sport, namely the emotion players and fans display when a score takes place. Now If anyone knows anything about cricket they know scores regularly get up into the 300's and my favorite sport contradicts my thoughts on basketball. Cricket is so unique that the outs are valued so much more than runs. It is a bigger deal to get 1 out in cricket than it is to score a touchdown in an nfl game or score a run in a baseball game and that is why I love it so much.
Until next time...
